AI Crypto Trading Indicators Explained

RSI, MACD, EMAs, Bollinger Bands, and Volume — how AI reads and weighs each signal

Trading indicators are mathematical formulas applied to price and volume data that help identify trends, momentum, and potential reversals. Used in isolation, they produce frequent false signals. Used together — and interpreted by AI that understands context — they form a powerful analytical framework. This guide explains the core indicators used in TrAIde's AI scoring engine and how each one contributes to the final market signal.

RSI — Relative Strength Index

RSI measures the speed and magnitude of price movements on a scale of 0 to 100. Standard interpretation treats readings above 70 as overbought (potential sell signal) and below 30 as oversold (potential buy signal).

How TrAIde's AI uses RSI: TrAIde applies an inverted, contrarian interpretation — treating an extremely low RSI (deep oversold) as a value signal rather than a sell confirmation. This reflects the reality that in crypto bear markets, the most significant buying opportunities often appear when RSI is at historic lows and conventional traders are most fearful.

RSI contributes 20% weight to the TrAIde Score, combined with MACD momentum data to filter out false positives.

MACD — Moving Average Convergence Divergence

MACD measures the relationship between two exponential moving averages (typically 12-period and 26-period EMAs). The MACD line, signal line, and histogram together reveal whether bullish or bearish momentum is building or fading.

How TrAIde's AI uses MACD: The AI focuses on the 7-day smoothed MACD histogram to filter out single-day noise spikes. A sustained positive histogram (above the zero line for 7+ days) signals genuine momentum. A histogram crossing below zero for 7+ days confirms a momentum shift. This smoothing approach reduces false signals while remaining sensitive to real trend changes.

MACD contributes 20% weight to the TrAIde Score.

EMAs — Exponential Moving Averages

EMAs smooth price data to reveal the underlying trend. Unlike simple moving averages, EMAs weight recent price data more heavily, making them more responsive to current market conditions.

How TrAIde's AI uses EMAs: The 200-period daily EMA and 200-period weekly EMA are the primary macro cycle indicators. An asset trading far below its 200-day EMA is in a potential value zone. An asset far above its 200-week EMA may be entering a distribution or overheating phase.

The ratio of current price to 200-day and 200-week EMAs forms the Cycle Position component of the TrAIde Score — the single highest-weighted input at 40%.

Bollinger Bands

Bollinger Bands consist of a 20-period SMA flanked by two standard deviation bands. When the bands contract (the "Squeeze"), a high-volatility breakout is likely. When the price touches or crosses the outer bands, it signals extreme conditions.

How TrAIde's AI uses Bollinger Bands: The AI uses band width as a volatility proxy when generating trade plan risk parameters. A narrow band environment suggests low-risk entry conditions. A wide band environment signals higher risk and wider stop-loss requirements.

Volume Analysis

Volume measures the number of units traded in a given period. High volume confirms that a price move has real participation behind it. Low volume during a price breakout suggests the move may be a false breakout with limited follow-through.

How TrAIde's AI uses volume: Volume intensity (current 24h volume vs. 30-day average) and liquidity health (bid-ask spread data) together form the True Liquidity component of the TrAIde Score (20% weight). Assets with surging volume relative to their historical baseline score higher. Assets with drying liquidity are flagged as higher risk regardless of price direction.
